Vice-President's Message
As soon as Highly Respected Late Shri Swami Shukdevanand Saraswati Ji put his feet on the land of Shahjahanpur, he deeply felt the lack of education. He knew that education will definitely increase literacy in the district. Thus with an aim to develop the sanskars among the children, he established Devi Sampad Brahmacharya Sanskrit Mahavidyalaya in the premises of Mumukshu Ashram. Afterwards he founded the first Inter College in the district, Devi Sampad Inter College, and later and Swami Shukdevanand Degree College, which has now become a Post Graduate College.
Following his traditions Highly Respected Shri Swami Chinmayanand Saraswati gave new heights to his ambitions. If education does not provide employment, its objective is not achieved. The core of this necessity was understood in terms of establishment of the first law college in the district. The then Governor Mr Vishnukant Shastri when visited the ashram for the first time, the District Bar Council assured him of the support, which bore fruits in due course. The then Speaker of Legislative Assembly, Mr Kesrinath Tripathi, President Legal Cell, Bar Council of India, Mr AP Mishra, IAS, and Mr Umesh Kumar Chauhan were among the main contributors.
Moot court was constructed in 2005-2006, where moot court is organised time to time. In these programmes, respectable lawyers from the city arrive and observe the preparation of the students, and share their invaluable experiences with them. We thank them from our heart for their obligation and hope that our students shall be blessed by them similarly in the future as well.
Computer lab equipped with broad band was established in 2007-2008. With the help of this the students are not only be able to get information on computer but also about the latest developments in the legal field and the latest judgements of the court.
One more important achievement of this session is five year course, after whose completion students get BA, LLB degree. This not only saves a full one year, but also gives the opportunity of detailed study of law. An additional floor was constructed to fulfil the need of the extra lecture halls for the five year course. We always felt the need to be different from the traditional image of the law colleges and tried to become a milestone in discipline and regularity. We were successful to the some extent, but not fully. With the thoughts of Highly Respected Swami Ji, if the students get a good atmosphere, they will definitely attend the classes. For this, experienced lecturers, cleanliness, facilities, beautiful gardens, fountains and flower gardens were made available on one side, participation of the college in sports week, Mumukshu Mahotsav and other competitions, was ensured at the other end. All this improved the attendance, but some of the students, who were not at all interested in studies and personality development, were left behind. The strictness, which was required to fulfil our moral responsibility to make them a qualified lawyer, was lacking from our side. The reason behind was the flexible admission policy of the university. Where the classes were to start in September, the counselling from the university got completed only in January! On what basis the students getting admission in January, and appearing for examinations in April, can be asked to complete the attendance. Because of this lopsided policy, the seats were never filled right from the establishment of the college till now, as by the time the admission process starts, the students would have already taken the admission at different places.
The change in the top management of Rohilkhand University has made us hopeful for the removal of the shortcomings, and we shall be successful in completing the benchmarks we have set up for us.
Sadhvi Chidarpita Saraswati
